FRAUNHOFER at a glance

The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft is the largest organisation for applied research in Europe and works closely with industry. Work in VIPERLAB will be carried out at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE (Freiburg) and the Fraunhofer Center for Silicon Photovotaics CSP (Halle), which is a collaboration of the Fraunhofer ISE and the Fraunhofer Institute for Microstructure of Materials and Systems IWMS (Halle). With more than 1200 employees, Fraunhofer ISE is the largest solar research institute in Europe. Based on the excellent laboratory infrastructure, materials, components, systems and processes are being developed in the business area Photovoltaics. The activities range from basic research to industrial realization and commercialisation

Main role and tasks in the project

Fraunhofer will provide infrastructure in the area of solar cell manufacturing and characterisation. Fraunhofer will lead WP10-JRA4 on environmental, social and economic impact. It will also contribute to the other JRA and the Networking activities

Infrastructures

Solar cell manufacturing & characterization

  • High efficiency silicon bottom cells
  • Vacuum and wet chemical processing of layers for perovskite tandem solar cells
  • Metallisation concepts
  • Electrical and optical analyses of perovskite silicon tandem cells and precursers
  • High resolution analyses down to the nano scale
