Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) is searching for a highly motivated postdocs in the field of highly efficient, innovative tandem solar cells to optimise the use of photovoltaics. At two of their institutes, they offer postdoc positions for the development, optimisation and upscaling of perovskite-based tandem solar cells on flexible and rigid substrates as part of the collaborative projects SolMates, SolarTap and Zeitenwende.

In the Horizon Europea SolMates project, a group of European and international research institutions in collaboration with pioneering companies will develop a new type of thin-film solar cell that combines efficiencies well beyond today’s standards with low environmental impact and unprecedented flexibility in application. They are looking for a Research Data Steward (TV-L E13) to work in SolMates  Project Team.

IMEC is  looking for talented PhD students to work on highly efficient and stable perovskite based photovoltaics from fundamentals towards commercialization . The aim of the work is the development of advanced defect passivation strategies to boost the performance of perovskite-based single and multijunction solar cells.

The Ph.D. candidate will join imec’s PV technology group performing world-class research on advanced thin-film and wafer-based technologies at our state-of-the-art research facilities located at the Energyville Campus in Genk. The student will work in both the thin film (PSK top cell) as well the waferPV (Si bottom cell) team and has the potential to collaborate with industrial partners.

The offered PhD position focusses on the study of long term operational behavior of PSC modules and module failure tests through a number of material characterization techniques (spectroscopic, imaging, ) combined with imaging techniques damp heat and thermal cycling to gain insight in the material properties and potential loss mechanisms and it will extend to comparison with outdoor testing to establish the correlation accelerated/outdoor tests.

The selected candidate will contribute to setting up a unique variant of UV photoelectron spectroscopy. He/she will then utilize this and other, already available tools to elucidate valence band and defect state densities of perovskite-relevant materials and interfaces, determine band offsets at heterojunctions with unprecedented precision, and much more for the understanding of the electronic properties of state-of-the-art perovskites
